"Jennifer has accomplished quite a lot at a young age and her community service, academic record and leadership traits are outstanding,"
Schimelpfenig NJHS President 2004-5, Jennifer Goebel, will spend her Junior year Spring semester in Washington DC.
In her first week on the job, she met the vice president and had a front-row seat to President Bush's State of the Union address.
At 16, Jennifer is living in Washington, D.C., doing things that few teenagers get to experience.
Jennifer is one of 30 high school juniors selected this winter to take part in the Senate Page program, which allows the students to work closely with the U.S. Senate. While working, the students also continue their schoolwork. Jennifer received the appointment from the office of U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
As a page, Jennifer's responsibilities include delivering legislative material within the congressional complex, preparing the chamber for Senate session, and taking messages for senators or calling them to the phone. Senate pages also carry bills and amendments to the presiding officer's desk. Pages are salaried employees of the US Senate.
